When choosing a location for your elliptical, there are many important factors to consider:
- Is this a high-traffic room/area?
- Is this room/area used largely by children or pets?
- Is the proper power source available? See our article: “Elliptical Power Supply Requirements.”
- How will the operating noise of the elliptical impact other nearby areas in this location?
- Is this room/area temperature regulated between 50 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit? See our article: “Elliptical Storage Temperature.”
- Is this room/area exposed to high amounts of dirt, dust, or debris?
- Does this room/area have a properly leveled floor? See our article: "How to Level Your Elliptical."
Considering the Best Space for Your Elliptical
Should I put my elliptical in the garage?
XTERRA does not recommend storing your elliptical in a garage. Garages are typically subject to extreme changes in temperature which can adversely impact your machine. See our article: "Elliptical Storage Temperature."
In addition to fluctuating temperatures, the garage is also usually not the cleanest room in a house. It’s a place where dust, dirt, and other debris collect over time. The dirt and dust build-up in the garage can easily get between the small crevices of your elliptical, impacting the operational longevity of your machine.
Should I put my elliptical outside?
No. Your elliptical is not designed for use outdoors, near a pool, spa, or any other high humidity environment. Never expose your elliptical to rain or moisture.
Should I put my elliptical in the basement?
The basement is a popular option when choosing a place to put your elliptical. This location is less likely to disrupt activities which usually take place on the main level of the house. If your basement is temperature controlled, has proper air circulation, is well-lit, and has a sufficient amount of space available to put your elliptical (as well as store if necessary), this could be a great area for your machine.
Should your basement also be used regularly by children or pets, take the proper safety precautions to ensure that your elliptical does not become a hazard. If pets have access to the basement, put the elliptical in a spot that is off-limits to your pets. Pets can wear down an elliptical with fur, scratch marks, stains, and dirt.
Should I put my elliptical in my bedroom?
Putting your elliptical in your bedroom is a great way to keep yourself motivated and reach your workout goals (“Out of sight, out of mind” as they say). This location is less likely to disrupt activities which usually take place in the center of the house. This is also a good location to keep your elliptical away from children and pets by closing the bedroom door.
If your bedroom is temperature controlled, has proper air circulation, is well-lit, and has a sufficient amount of space available to put your elliptical (as well as store if necessary), this could be a great area for your machine.
